A review of Erik Rush’s new book, “Annexing Mexico: Solving The Border Problem Through Annexation And Assimilation”

Most of us are currently looking south towards our neighbor Mexico and wondering what is the best strategy to deal with an out of control, illegal, immigration problem. Erik Rush has written a very compelling book towards answering this question in: Annexing Mexico: Solving The Border Problem Through Annexation And Assimilation ISBN 978-1-933769-23-3. I was made cognizant of Rush’s annexation thoughts in 2005, when one of my many hungry internet search engines gobbled up an interesting article, by an author unknown to me, that was talking about a little plan for annexing Mexico. The article was of such interest to me that I hard copied it and placed it in a file. While I was actually looking at a different topic on national security, Rush’s unique idea on the border question ‘had me at hello’ and I was only too happy to buy his expanded version in book form. I read the equivalent of three to four books a week. The majority of this reading comes from the requirements of a very rigorous PhD program in which my mind is put to the test daily; however, I have made it my vow to consume at least one book a week on conservative issues of importance to me. At times, this could be considered a mental cleansing, and it is always therapeutic. So, I was very happy when Erik Rush’s book made it through the rotation, and I was not disappointed.

Rush’s book is clear and concise. The book has easy flow, and transitions well from concept to concept. I was amazed with pages 23-28 which document the amount of disease and pestilence that walks into the United States via the southern border daily. This information should be sobering to everyone, and a topic that is often under-reported as a reason for rapid action on the border issue. I was impressed with Rush’s breakdown of the financial hurdles for an annexation of Mexico. I am a secure border advocate, let there be no mistake about that; however, I think that Rush’s book attempts to address the concerns of people who want both border security and compassion for the people of Mexico. There is little doubt that Rush sees a mutual benefit in annexation for both America and Mexico. This book is thought provoking and intellectually nutritious. It’s out of the box thinking, and the only tragedy of this book, is that I did not write it myself. Fortunately, Erik Rush has left me Cuba. Congratulations Erik Rush on a fine book that I think should be in the hands of as many people as possible.
