Locking, Loading, and Preachin’ to the Choir
Guns/Gun Rights item by Dave Hoffman - Apr 19, 2013

Obama is making speeches to people who are just as confused about 2nd Amendment rights as he is…

I usta sing in the choir at the First Methodist Church, in Gloucester City, New Jersey. I quit singing when I was a teen, for reasons that don’t cover what I’m talking about, so I won’t mention them now. In fact, I now sing in the Choir at Faith Bible Church, in DeSoto, Texas, if you want to go somewhere and torture your ears on a Sunday. I got to thinking about that, and it occurred to me that there are times when, it seems, that only the choir is paying any attention to what the Pastor is saying. I guess there’s many reasons for that, such as wanting the service to be over, getting ready to sing again, or because they’re genuinely interested in what the pastor has to say.

The reason I bring this up is that the choir in a lot of churches is sort of a “captive audience” to what the pastor has to say, especially if they sit in a choir loft or some other place where they can’t escape the preachin’ no matter how bad it might be. I don’t have that problem, because we sing our songs and then leave the platform to sit and listen.

But what if that “captive audience” is there because they believe in what the preacher has to say? What if they’re all saved, and they love their preacher, and they hang on every word he says?

Kinda makes you think a little bit about the Branch Davidians, doesn’t it?

Kinda makes you wonder where I’m going with this, doesn’t it?

Well, before we get to the crux of the matter, let me have you look at something else. In our church, we try to reach out to the unsaved, invite them to services, make them feel at home and welcome. Our Pastor doesn’t “preach to the choir”, he preaches to those that need to hear what he has to say and what he has to offer. He preaches elsewhere, places like Chicago in the good old U. S. of A., and this week he’s going over to Viet Nam to preach and teach there. In other words, he’s going out to speak to those who don’t agree with him, those whom he feels must be persuaded to what he offers. He knows that many he will face will not agree with him, and some will be downright against what he has to say. He has the courage of his convictions, the faith in his beliefs, and the willingness to lay it all on the line.

Can’t say the same about ole Barack, can we?

Quick, tell me the month and year, the last time ole Barack dropped in on Dallas to promote gun control, 10 round magazines, and banning them evil old “assault weapons“. In fact, when was the last time he showed up to present, argue, and defend his position on guns and gunners? It’s not like he has anything to fear, folks, he’s got all of those Secret Service agents around him, with black handguns with 15 or more round magazines, and some of those guys are carrying REAL assault weapons!
Too, he can bring extra Secret Service agents with him, when he’s speechifying in the Bible Belt. After all those guys don’t have to worry about security at the peoples White House any more, since it was closed to the public that elected him and their children. But then, maybe Barack’s just confused about the difference between “public” and “Republican” and that’s why he doesn’t want any White House visitors.
Anyway, to get back to my main point, Obama is wasting taxpayer dollars (as usual) making speeches to people who are just as confused about Second Amendment rights as he is, and demonstrating outright fear at the prospect of talking to the people he actually has to convince. We are out here, in flyover country, working men and women, with gun licenses and handguns. We’re ready to protect ourselves, our families, our neighbors, and our property, using the rights that were NOT granted, but acknowledged by that pesky Second Amendment so many years ago.
So there’s Obama, folks. Preachin to the choir. Only question I have is, are they listening because they’re true believers? Or because they’re brainwashed?
