We don’t actually have an “idiot of the week” feature here at Capitol
Hill Coffee House, but we have such a worthy recipient this week,
we figured we’d bestow the honor on him, regardless. Our “esteemed”
recipient is one Nelson Polite, who in addition to being an idiot,
is also a member of the Lancaster, Pennsylvania city council.
It
seems Mr. Polite has gotten his knickers in a knot over the fact that
another town resident, David Stoltzfus, had the absolute audacity to
hang a picture of President Bush in the baked goods store he runs
at the city market. It seems that Polite (a truly ironic name), was
offended by the picture of the President, and even called on
Mr. Stolzfus to ask him to take down the picture. Stolzfus evidently
wasn’t moved by Polite’s plea and refused.
So now Polite says
he’s going to push for a new city ordinance that would make the posting
of any “political material” (which evidently includes pictures of
the President of the United States), on public property, illegal.
Gee, what a wonderful idea…laws forbidding one posting a picture of
the elected leader of our own nation at their place of business. Perhaps
next Mr. Polite can suggest an ordinance banning the public display
of Ronald MacDonald pictures at the site of the golden arches.
It
sounds like Mr. Polite needs to get a life…
Or maybe, he needs
to receive some mail from a lot of folks letting them know what they
think about his “great” idea:
